I graduated from the University of Helsinki (Helsingin yliopisto) in 1971.

The degree is called "filosofian kandidaatti", abbreviated "fil. kand." or "FK", in Finnish. It corresponds to "filosofian maisteri" in the current system of degrees (tutkintojärjestelmä).

My major was (pure) mathematics, and my Masters's thesis was about general topology. I also studied physics, theoretical physics, theoretical philosophy, and statistics.

I haven't had much use for what I learned at the University, except that I am not afraid of formalisms - which is an important thing indeed.
